Sometimes it’s easier than you think to find a perfect gift.  This June 17th, here’s an idea: instead of stressing yourself and trying to overdo it, make Father’s Day easy with a simple, tasty gift of Father’s Day Cookies.  You know already that a gift basket for Dad will never be returned to the store, especially if it has signature Smiley Cookies emblazoned with fun, special messages like “Happy Father’s Day” or “#1 Dad”.

Still not convinced a soft, chewy cookie with icing on top is the best idea?  Here are 5 reasons why Dad thinks otherwise—and why a few simple Father’s Day preparation will lead to a great gift.

Reason #1: Everyone likes cookies.  Remember that Father’s Day you bought Dad a necktie?  He still doesn’t wear it, right?  Although he may have proclaimed his delight the minute you presented it to him, making you feel fuzzy inside, that gift was not the best idea.  And if it wasn’t a necktie, most of us have memories of gifts that went wrong.  You know one thing for sure when you’re considering the alternative of our cookie treats for Dad.  Everyone, from Dad to the people he shares his gift with, will find our Father’s Day cookies or a special assembly of Smiley Cookies collected in a beautiful gift basket for Dad truly delightful.  (Don’t expect him to share too much on this one.)

Reason #2: Easy to do, uncomplicated for you.  Planning a big event for Dad’s day could end in disaster if the caterer doesn’t show up.  Don’t stress out and plan too much for a Father’s Day celebration when you could be ordering a tray of Father’s Day cookies online that will be delivered to your doorstep.  This might not be in the traditional Father’s Day past, but it’s the present and it’s time to give yourself (and Dad) a break here.

Reason #3: He’s a picky person. Skip this point and go to the next one if Dad is an easy-going, free-for-all kinda guy.  But most Dads who have raised their household (including you) have their firm choices in foods, gifts, and everything else.  Dad’s pickiness might have been a reason you were stumped many times on past Father’s Day.  A gift basket from Dad featuring Father’s Day cookies will be accepted by the pickiest of Scrooges.

Reason #4: Fresh-baked cookies will make him happy.  A simple card with “I love you, Dad” or a white flower might have been all Dad needed to make him happy when you were 5.  Keep him happy with something he can enjoy all for himself: Father’s Day cookies.  Your alternative traditional gifts, like a all-nighter at his favorite hotel, or a fishing holiday at the lake, might make Dad happy but won’t bring the simple joy a fresh-baked cookie does.  It’s just something you can’t beat.

Reason #5: Low cost.  Okay, you knew we were coming to this one.  It’s a tight economy—who has money to send Dad out for a weekend in Vegas?  (If you do, you can always send him off the right way with our Father’s Day cookies.) Our cookies are delivered straight to your door, and the cost can be below $20 for a single tray.

Some people are just plain hard to buy for — either they are fussy or they have everything. One thing they don’t have, and even the fussiest of the fussy will enjoy, is one of our birthday gift baskets filled with melt-in-your mouth, buttery Smiley cookies. Choose from several Smiley Cookie gift baskets with cookies or cookies, coffee and a mug. Relatives, friends and co-workers will love you for this gift, and though it may not last long, the smiles that Smiley cookie gift basket brings will be remembered for a long time.

Whether it is as a soccer snack, cheerleading snack or a snack for some other type of sport, selecting the best snacks for kids can be a challenge. It is important to take certain conditions under consideration when selecting the proper snack for the entire team. In this way, all children on the team will be able to enjoy the snack.

Food Allergies

When a child has a food allergy, the immune system treats a certain food which is normally benign as truly dangerous to the individual. Common food allergies include nuts, seafood, milk/dairy products, eggs, soy and wheat. Milk and dairy products may cause a problem due to lactose intolerance in certain individuals. Avoiding milk products can solve this problem when selecting that cheerleading snack for your child.

Nut free foods are important to take into consideration. A nut free snack can take the form of fruits and vegetables. Other common nut free foods which can be used are fruit roll-ups, cookies, pretzels, chips, crackers, jello and pudding. On a hot summer day, frozen snacks such as popsicles and ice cream may be the perfect nut free snack. When making a selection for snacks for kids, it is important to keep all allergies under consideration as well as any food restrictions as a result of a child’s religion.

Religious Food Restrictions

Different religious groups have different eating practices including food restrictions. One type of food restriction to take into consideration is the Jewish practice of kosher food restrictions. Foods have to be prepared a certain way and cannot contain pork or shellfish. Meat and dairy cannot be eaten at the same time. The best kosher snacks include fruits, vegetables, rice cakes, popcorn, certified kosher cookies and graham crackers.

Look for logos like this one from the Orthodox Union to insure that your snack will meet religious food restrictions.

Other Considerations

Another consideration for a soccer snack is if a child is vegetarian. In addition to avoiding meat, certain vegetarians do not eat eggs, dairy products or processed foods. There are varying levels of vegetarians so people who avoid meat products may eat eggs.

It may be helpful to consult with the parent of the child with food restrictions to see the types of snacks the child usually eats. Fruits and vegetables are often a good choice as a soccer snack for the entire team. Or do a google search for nut free snacks, or whatever particular allergy or food concern you are interested in. The selection may take some time but it will be well worth it to see that all the children are included and can enjoy the snack you bring.

Parties are great! …Lots of friends and family spending time together to celebrate a special event or milestone for one of their own. Almost every party has a gift giving aspect. Whether there are gift exchanges, presents for one person, or a “Chinese gift grab” it can be difficult to make your gift stand out from the crowd.

While gift giving has become increasingly dull over the years, there are certain ways to spice it up and put more meaning and personality into every present you give. I’m talking about personalized wrapping paper!

I will now take you through the steps to make better presents, from the outside in!

1)    Decide how you would like to personalize your wrapping paper. You can use recycled goods (like newspaper), blank specialty papers that you can then customize, or you can have your personalized gift wrap professionally printed.

2)    Decide what you would like the theme of the wrap to be – it should be consistent with the type of gift you are giving. Is this going to be sentimental or funny? Reminiscent or goofy? It very much depends on the recipient of your gifts. You would definitely have a different look depending if you are presenting your gifts to a young child, best friend, co-worker, or mother in law.

3)    After deciding on your customization method and your theme its time to secure your materials.

  • Recycled paper is the easiest to acquire. Look for leftover newspaper or magazine. These will save trees, but can still give a first class look.
  • Specialty paper can be picked up from any local craft store, along with the art materials needed to customize it.
  • For a professionally personalized gift wrap – you should start looking at online stores. Search for the terms “custom wrapping paper” or “personalized wrapping paper” and you should find a number of different manufacturers that allow you to use your own pictures and greetings to customize a roll of gift wrap for any occasion! Prices start around $14.95 per roll (1 roll will usually wrap 3 medium size gifts).

*There not much more unique than a roll of custom wrapping paper covering a dozen customizable cookies!

Create your own customized cookie to make an incredible personalized gift that everyone will love!

4)      Give yourself a high five (just as long as no one is watching). You have used your creativity and now your gift is the star of the party. Be prepared for others to ask “where did this come from?”, “how did you make this?”, “can you teach me how to be so unique?”…and it will feel pretty good…!

Reasons for personalized gift wrap:

  • Makes gifts more meaningful
  • Can make up for presents where you “didn’t know what to get them”
  • Will make your gift stand out
  • It will be remembered for years to come
  • Saves trees in most cases (personalized gift wrap is usually saved and kept as a keepsake or it goes into a scrapbook or memory book)

In a world filled with delicious desserts, how is one ever to choose? Luckily for me, the great thing about  getting my degree online is that I can travel the world, eating exotic pastries all while finishing up college.

I have always had a major sweet tooth, and I have loved every second of jetting around the globe in search of the next great dessert. Here are a few of my favorite exotic desserts!

Cannoli – Originated in Sicily, Italy, a cannolo (singular) is a tube-shaped, fried pastry dough stuffed with a sweet, creamy filling. Often topped with a drizzle of chocolate or crushed pistachios, cannoli are wonderful finishes to any meal! I first tried these when I was in Italy, but I order them every time I go to my favorite local Italian restaurant.

Mango Sticky Rice – A traditional summer dessert from Thailand, mango sticky rice is a fabulous dish primarily comprised of sticky rice, mangos, sugar and creamy coconut milk. I ate this refreshing dessert on a vacation to the beaches of Thailand, and it brings me back every time I order it at a Thai restaurant.

Crème Brulee – This decadent dessert hails from France, and is made up of thick, creamy custard topped with caramelized sugar. Served in individual ramekins, crème brulee makes the perfect dinner party dessert. I love to make this for guests when they come over and they are always impressed.

Flan – Often referred to as crème caramel, flan is a creamy custard dish with a rich, complex caramel flavor. Slightly giggly, this dessert is slightly similar to crème brulee, but much different in texture. I love to eat this dish after a particularly spicy meal to cool off my mouth and soothe my stomach.

Baklava – Crunchy, sweet, nutty and gooey, baklava is a traditional Greek dessert that succeeds in winning me over every time. Featuring layers of flakey phyllo dough and nuts dripping in a chewy honey mixture, I ate my weight in Baklava as I toured through the Greek Islands last year.

Remember, just because you can’t pronounce or have never tried something doesn’t mean it won’t be delicious!
