The History of the Smiley Cookie

SmileyCookie.com is a site devoted to the Eat’n Park icon, the Smiley Cookie.

Jim Broadhurst  is the man behind the cookie’s story.  As a boy, Jim frequented a small bakery in his hometown of Titusville, Pennsylvania.  Every day on his way home from school, Jim would stop at Warner’s Bakery and purchase a happy-faced cookie as a treat for five cents.

What began as a simple sweet treat has morphed into something much, much more! There is now a Smiley Cookie for every occasion.  They take on the shape of hearts, shamrocks, bunnies, and jack-o-lanterns and are available for order in virtually any color combination.  One thing that that always remains the same is the cookie’s signature friendly smile.

Smiley Cookies and the Community

In the beginning, children under 10 were delighted by a surprise free Smiley Cookie after their meal.  We love bringing smiles to people’s faces, especially people in need.  For this reason,  more than 200,000 are donated to local non-profit organizations every year.

These organizations use the signature sweet treat to spread smiles at community and fund raising events.  The Smiley Cookie Team and the Cookie Cruiser can always be seen passing out cookies at local events. Kids still get their free cookie, too. In fact, last year over 1 million kids got free cookies.

Smiley Cookies are no longer just a Pittsburgh tradition, or just a Pennsylvania or Ohio tradition. Our store ships our familiar smiling cookies all around the country.  Through our website, we give customers the ability to customize their cookies to match wedding colors, sport teams, corporate logos and much more.
